Sustainability and resilience

Key strategic pillars

Sustainability and resilience are key pillars of the Airbus strategy. Our sustainability efforts aim to address our environmental impact, build greater efficiency in our operations, and ensure the resilience of our products. We make progress against these goals through innovation and collaboration: pioneering new technologies, exploring alternative fuels, participating in and leading research, and making strategic partnerships and investments.

Climate change mitigation

Innovation is a key driver of progress allowing us to improve our existing fleet, develop technology for future aircraft and work with the wider ecosystem on alternative fuels, optimised air traffic management, and to explore the effects of non-CO2 emissions.

Adaptation to climate change

We are working hard to assess and address potential impacts to our industry and products which may result from global warming. Our adaptation efforts are broadly centralised around three areas: adapting our supply chain, adapting our people and sites, and adapting our products.

Resources and circularity

We take a lifecycle approach to our products by investing at the supply, design and materials stage to create dependable and efficient products that are made to last. We have been building greater resilience into our supply chain, bolstered by high standards of governance and due diligence. We aim to minimise waste and incorporate circular approaches throughout the design and manufacturing processes and at the end of an aircraft’s serviceable life.

Society and people in focus

Aerospace is more than engineering. From enabling global cooperation to fostering economic inclusion, our industry is deeply intertwined with society. Aerospace connects people and opportunities. It facilitates the exchange of goods, services and ideas.

Our industry also plays a key role in security, safety and peacekeeping.  Aerospace technology and products in action can contribute to protecting critical infrastructure and peacekeeping efforts, and help enterprises to protect against increasingly complex cyber and physical threats.

A robust ethics and compliance programme

Everything Airbus does is guided by its core principles of safety, quality, security, integrity and compliance. These pillars enable us to fulfil our commitments while navigating risks and leveraging opportunities. We embed these interconnected principles into our daily operations to ensure resilience, competitiveness and adherence to the highest possible standards.

Our Ethics & Compliance Programme and Culture of Integrity reinforce one another. The programme provides the structural framework, policies, and guidance for responsible conduct worldwide; whereas the culture is nurtured as a living commitment maintained with unwavering focus. This section explains:

- Our commitments: The core standards that govern our actions.

- Our Ethics & Compliance Programme: The detailed policies guiding our daily interactions, addressing key areas like anti-corruption, responsible lobbying, and third-party due diligence.

- Our Culture of Integrity: The way we ensure accountability, including training, and a ‘Speak Up’ and ‘Listen Up’ culture that empowers our people.
