What is an Airbus Tech Hub?

Launched in 2024, our Tech Hubs serve as strategic gateways to global research and the Airbus innovation ecosystem. They are designed to:

  • Catalyse breakthroughs: Drive local aerospace research and technology through high-impact partnerships.
  • Foster collaboration: Connect local professionals, researchers, and startups with Airbus’ global expertise.
  • Build collective ingenuity: Unite industry leaders, academia, and government bodies to push the boundaries of aviation together.

Our Global Network

Our  South Korea Tech Hub, launched in November 2025, reflects a deep commitment to one of the world’s most dynamic technological landscapes. Contributing to the local economy and supporting skilled jobs, this Hub strengthens our footprint through key locations in Daejeon and Busan. It will specifically focus on three key research pillars: 

  • Future energy technologies
  • Advanced lightweight composites
  • Next-generation defence and space technologies

This expansion deepens an industrial partnership spanning over 50 years, during which South Korea has become a vital customer base for Airbus and a manufacturing partner.

Coordinated from Tokyo, the Japan Tech Hub was established in mid-2024 to tap into the country’s world-leading capabilities in materials science and automation. Supported by the Japanese Ministry of Economy and Trade (METI), it represents a deep commitment to one of our most technologically advanced partner nations.

  • Key focus areas: Next-generation materials development, decarbonisation technologies, and robotics/automation for manufacturing
  • Collaboration: Working alongside Japanese industry leaders and academic institutions to push the boundaries of "generation after next" aerospace technology
  • Vision: Using Japan’s unique digital and industrial competencies to pave the way for decarbonising aviation

Building on a partnership that dates back to 1969, the Singapore Hub (formerly the Sustainable Aviation Hub) is located at the heart of the Seletar Aerospace Park. It acts as the primary regional engine for innovation in Southeast Asia.

  • Key focus areas: Sustainable aviation fuels, unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), and digital services for the Asia-Pacific market
  • Synergy: Integrated with the Airbus Singapore Campus, which houses the world's largest Airbus-operated flight training centre
  • Impact: Strengthening Singapore’s status as a premier global aviation hub through co-developed research and high-fidelity aerospace solutions

Our Global Network

Launched in April 2024, the Netherlands Hub serves as a bridge between Dutch engineering excellence and Airbus’ decarbonisation roadmap. This hub leverages the country's well established high-tech ecosystem that includes companies and technical universities that are relevant to aerospace. Key focus areas: 

  • Sustainable aerospace structures and materials
  • Future energy technologies, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) 
  • Future cabin technologies & processes: recycling and re-use of materials 
  • Local ecosystem: based near Leiden, the Hub collaborates closely with world-renowned Dutch knowledge institutes and a robust network of aerospace SMEs
  • Strategic goal: integrating Dutch expertise in satellite structures (optical ground stations in particular) and specialised materials into the broader Airbus commercial and space roadmaps

Our Global Network

Canada offers a myriad of technological advantages, such as the uniquely decarbonised industrial baseline with an energy profile dominated by hydroelectric and nuclear power.

The Airbus Tech Hub in Canada will concentrate its efforts on three core technology pillars, supported by deep tech transverse capabilities aligned with the country's R&T strategy and designed to bolster the A220 programme, alongside broader Airbus strategic objectives:

  • Sustainable materials & circularity, i.e. bio-based, composite, polymer materials and research into recycling processes, including for Titanium
  • Decarbonisation & electrification, hydrogen H2: developing fuel cells, advanced batteries, and hybrid-electric gas turbine engines, validating the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) for the A220 programme, advanced aerodynamics and more
  • Manufacturing & operations (Industry 4.0/5.0) such as smart automation & AI, robotics, developing digital twins, and advancing additive manufacturing techniques among others
  • Quantum & (trustworthy) AI
