Airbus Americas fills new position, Director - Research and Technology


David Paul Hills comes to U.S. from Airbus Operations in UK

As part of its ongoing work to double its investment in the U.S. economy over the next 20 years, Airbus has created and filled the new position of Director, Research and Technology (R&T), Airbus Americas. David Paul Hills, 52, previously with Airbus Operations in the United Kingdom, starts at the new job tomorrow, May 1. He will be based at Airbus Americas headquarters in Herndon, Virginia, and will report directly to Airbus Americas President and CEO, Barry Eccleston. Hills will also liaise closely with EADS North America, also based in Herndon. 

“As we continue to grow our operations in the U.S., it has become rapidly apparent that we need an expert to identify new opportunities in the North American R&T community,” said Eccleston. “David comes to us with vast relevant experience, including a broad understanding of business governance and operations policy. His addition to our team will help drive our technology development in the U.S., opening many doors that previously we had not approached.”

Hills has been with Airbus for 14 years, most recently as Head of Policy and Development for the Landing Gear Engineering Center. Prior to that, he worked in various capacities as a leader in the Airbus R&T field since 1999. Before joining Airbus, Hills spent 15 years at BAE Systems in the Computational Fluid Dynamics arena. Hills holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics with Applied Physics from the University of Bath, in the UK. 

Hills and his wife are relocating to the suburban Washington, D.C. area.
