How did the Airbus 'Fly Again' programme help you return to work?

The Airbus India “Fly Again” programme is one that truly empowers women who have taken a career break - the reason for the break doesn't matter, your willingness to take charge of your career gets evaluated alongside with your skills, competencies and experiences during the job interview. Further, there was an opportunity for a transparent exchange with the hiring manager, on the support I expected from the organisation, which eased my way back to the active workforce.

What was the most impactful aspect of the programme for you?

The onboarding support I received made all the difference - a customised training plan, mentorship with a senior leader and an extremely empathetic boss! Once in the organisation, I was given all opportunities to explore my potential and received regular feedback on how I was doing. Through this feedback loop and ensuing learning & development actions, I was able to take up more significant responsibilities within the team.

What advice or support did you receive?

A warm and inclusive team is the answer to any lingering doubts I may have had - “Just be yourself” was the one common advice I received from a lot of senior colleagues and peers, which indicated appreciation for diversity in thoughts, experiences and actions. Understanding the business context beyond my own team’s goals, was an important part of learning which helped me contribute effectively to my day-to-day responsibilities.

What is your advice for women ready to return to work?

Before applying for jobs, it is essential to take stock of one’s current level of technical proficiency and address gaps, if any, through certifications or relevant training. Enlist a good support system at home, to help focus on getting back to the active workforce.

Resume building and interview preparations are key - Be genuine and focus on the transferability of your skills, competencies and experience to the job applied for. 

Finally, be confident of your innate strengths!

The autonomy to plan my workload and build meaningful connections within the organisation has helped me grow as a professional and I have enjoyed being able to share my learnings further.
