At the service of communities and the planet

Protecting communities

From the immediate urgency of a natural disaster to the long-term challenge of the Earth’s changing climate, Airbus technology plays an important role in protecting communities and our planet. We equip first responders around the world with robust solutions and versatile aircraft, enabling them to conduct humanitarian, lifesaving and firefighting missions.

Our helicopters provide first-response crews with rapid access to the most remote locations, while our larger aircraft can help them deliver aid or perform medical evacuations. On the ground, our secure radio communications ensure firefighters can coordinate their response safely and effectively. At the same time, advanced Airbus-built satellites monitor the Earth from space, providing scientists, governments and organisations with the critical data needed to understand, track, and take action on climate change.

A 360-degree approach to firefighting

Rapid aerial response

Our versatile helicopters are a crucial asset in fighting fires globally, fulfilling critical roles of aerial coordination and firefighter transport, as well as performing water bombing and rescue missions.

High-capacity firefighting

Our secure communication solutions aid firefighters. We are developing a roll-on/roll-off firefighting kit for the A400M, capable of dropping 20,000 litres of retardant to suppress major fires.

A lifeline in times of crisis

Our helicopters and military aircraft are used for critical humanitarian and lifesaving missions. When time is of the essence, helicopters such as the H140, H145 or the H160 enable rapid access for first responders and advanced equipment for emergency medical services and search and rescue missions.

For larger-scale events, military aircraft like the A330 MRTT and A400M are used for medical evacuations. In the wake of a major disaster, satellite imagery provides rescue teams with vital intelligence, while our platforms help deliver humanitarian aid to affected communities.

Tracking change and taking climate action

Understanding our planet is the key to protecting it. Airbus satellites provide critical data for climate science, offering insights that are only possible from space. The Airbus-built Copernicus Sentinel-6 satellite, for example, tracks rising sea levels with remarkable precision, while the Biomass mission monitors forests and their role in the carbon cycle. Through programmes like Starling, we turn complex satellite data into actionable intelligence, empowering organisations to make informed choices about climate action.
