We are actively striving to reduce emissions on our sites and in our production processes, and throughout our supply chain.

We monitor, collect robust data, and report on the progress we have made against our emissions target. This process helps us to hold ourselves accountable and remain focused on this important task.

Scope 1 and 2

Scope 1 and 2 emissions refer to the emissions we can control that sit within our own environmental footprint, including our products, services and production facilities.

Airbus has the ambition to reduce its Scope 1 and Scope 2 industrial emissions by up to 63% by 2030. The revised targets are in line with a 1.5°C pathway and include the target to neutralise residual emissions by 2030 following a Science-Based approach.

Scope 3

Scope 3 emissions refer to in-use emissions of our commercial aircraft: that is to say, the emissions produced by our products during their operation.

As part of its non-financial reporting, Airbus has extended its disclosure to include the in-use emissions of commercial aircraft delivered in 2019 and 2020 (Scope 3 - Use of sold products). In doing so, Airbus is the first aircraft manufacturer to disclose the emissions produced by its products during their operation.

SBTi (Science-Based Targets)

In 2022, Airbus officially committed to define Science-Based Targets for the entire set of its emissions. The following mid-term targets have been submitted to the SBTi for assessment and validation:

  • Scopes 1 & 2: -63% absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 2030** and neutralisation of residual emissions
  • Scope 3: -46% greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 2035**
