How the invisible protects the visible

VIVATECH 2026

This June, join Airbus in Paris for the 10th anniversary of Europe’s biggest tech event. At VivaTech, you’ll discover how we design the invisible to protect the visible. We’re pulling back the curtain to show you how a seamless mesh of data, AI, connectivity and other aerospace technologies protect people and society from both physical and virtual threats.

This ‘invisible shield’ operates around the world, stretching from the ground beneath our feet to the satellites orbiting far above our heads. Made up of digital and aerospace innovations, many powered by artificial intelligence, this shield goes beyond reactive security to provide proactive resilience. It protects everyone, from rescue workers and law enforcement, to military personnel and civilians.

AI-powered technologies on the ground protect the physical safety of people and infrastructure, from an airport tarmac to concert halls and sports arenas.

By creating defensive layers in cyberspace, we protect against virtual threats that can have real-world ramifications on people, politics and infrastructure.

This layer shows how managing complex aerial environments with innovative aerospace technologies, like quantum sensing and mission autonomy software, keep everyone safe.

Airbus-built satellites give a unique perspective that can be used to counter climate change challenges, and provide scalable and secure connectivity.

How Airbus supports Europe’s digital sovereignty

VIVATECH 2026

In a time of volatile trade and geopolitics, digital sovereignty for companies and governments of the EU has become more important than ever. We develop European-led digital solutions in order to ensure that all the technology governing Airbus products remains under EU jurisdiction. We are also part of initiatives like Gaia-X, a European initiative to develop a secure standard for data infrastructure.

Digital autonomy has become a core pillar of national and economic security, and we are doing our part to participate and secure the future of European aerospace leadership.

Quantum navigation

Airbus Deep Tech

Quantum navigation offers a resilient solution to GPS jamming and spoofing attacks, using the Earth's magnetic field to generate accurate data. Building on advanced performance simulation tools and a flight campaign of more than 150 hours, Airbus is maturing this technology for a commercial aircraft demonstration.

Airbus Deep Tech

Airbus is using artificial intelligence to reinforce resilience across all domains. AI-enriched mission autonomy enables seamless collaboration in the skies, while agentic AI is deployed to process billions of data points and distinguish fact from fiction. We are also embedding AI into our products to create extra layers of security.

Visit us at VivaTech

VIVATECH 2026

If you’re attending VivaTech, you will find the Airbus booth on the third floor of the upgraded Hall 7. In addition to learning more about the four layers of Airbus’ invisible shield – the ground, cyberspace, the sky and space – you’ll be able to engage with four different interactive exhibits that will bring the shield to life.

If you are unable to attend in a business capacity, Saturday, 20 June is the public day at VivaTech. Content at the Airbus stand will remain in English, but other VivaTech events taking place this day will be in French.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Want more details about our presence at VivaTech this year?

Why is Airbus at VivaTech?

The future of flight is being written in code as much as it is being built in carbon fibre. As a company that designs autonomous flight systems, builds global satellite constellations and manages some of the world’s most complex industrial data platforms, Airbus’ success is closely linked to staying at the forefront of innovative technological development.

Airbus engineers don’t just design aircraft, they create entire digital ecosystems that keep them flying safely and as efficiently as possible. They also analyse billions of data points – a single A350 produces a terabyte of data every day – and apply the findings to regularly improve Airbus products.

The future of aerospace technology is also a pioneering frontier for deep tech development. Indeed, exploration is already well underway into how future technologies like quantum sensing and agentic AI can improve flight.

What is Airbus showcasing at VivaTech 2026?

Airbus is showcasing the concept of the invisible shield, a connected web made up of digital Airbus technologies that protect people and society. There are four layers: on the ground, in cyberspace, in the sky and in space.

How is AI changing the aerospace industry?

You may be surprised to learn that AI has long been behind the scenes at Airbus: our first AI applications were developed in the 1990s to interpret satellite images. With the explosive growth of large language models in recent years, however, AI services and software are now being used to optimise many different kinds of operations at Airbus.

Generally speaking, AI is changing how aircraft are designed and built through algorithms that permit generative design and identify production bottlenecks before they arrive. AI also plays a key role in predictive analytics and flight path optimisation for aircraft currently flying.
