A symbol of certainty trusted by airlines around the world, the A350 has an exceptional operational reliability rating, delivering real-world performance every single day.

How the A350 opens up new flight possibilities with longer range

To fly on an A350 is to experience a world where distance is no longer a firm barrier to having a direct flight: as the industry’s premier long-range aircraft, it rewrites how people connect with each other. The A350-1000 boasts a maximum range of 9,100 nautical miles in a classic three-class configuration, giving airlines the ability to draw entirely new routes across the globe, bypassing traditional layovers and directly building bridges between continents. It eases the friction of travel for passengers, directly bridging the distance between cultures and making the world feel a little closer for those separated from loved ones by the world's vast oceans.

This ability to link distant cities is powered by an unyielding focus on efficiency that starts with the aircraft’s design. Beneath its sleek frame, the A350 benefits from a massive 50-tonne reduction in structural weight compared to older, previous-generation widebodies. This clean-sheet optimisation translates directly into a 25% reduction in fuel burn compared to previous-generation aircraft,  reducing cost-per-trip for airlines by up to 12%. It is precisely these savings that give airlines the flexibility to open up previously unviable and unserved routes, requiring flights lasting up to 19 hours, with the A350-1000. 

The journey of expanding horizons began with the entry-into-service of the A350-900 in 2016 with a maximum range of 8,100 nautical miles (up to 8,600 now in 2026). The collective desire of airlines to push boundaries even further inspired the larger A350-1000, which features a maximum range of 9,100 nautical miles. While it already boasts one of the longest ranges in the world for a commercial aircraft, there is more – and farther – to come: the A350-1000 ULR (ultra-long range). The A350-1000ULR's range will be the longest in the world when it enters into service for Qantas Airlines in 2027. This will permit, for the first time ever, non-stop flights between Sydney and both New York and London, with flight times of up to 22 hours. It embodies the enduring legacy of the A350 Family: to not only expand the future of flight, but to reshape the geography of human connection.

Behind the A350’s global success is a deeply rooted connection with the UK that gives it wings – literally. The aircraft’s wings are masterpieces of biomimicry, designed by skilled engineers in the UK to behave like those of a bird in flight. They actively morph, twist and adapt during flight to optimise aerodynamic efficiency, reduce wind resistance and cut fuel consumption. While these advanced wings provide the lift, the engines provide the raw power. And this too comes from the UK: Rolls-Royce is the exclusive engine manufacturer for all A350 variants. The Rolls-Royce Trent XWB high-thrust engines that fly on the A350 are designed, tested and manufactured in Derby. 

Since the aircraft first entered into service in 2015, this propulsion system has undergone a meticulous journey of improvement based on lessons learned from millions of flight hours. Continuous, step-by-step upgrades to the engine’s internal technologies and thermal materials over the years mean the engines can now fly for significantly longer periods before ever needing to be removed for major servicing, cementing the Trent ecosystem as a definitive standard for long-range flight.

The definition of modern long-haul travel begins the moment you view the aircraft’s distinct black cockpit mask through the windows at the gate. Inside, the award-winning Airspace cabin welcomes passengers into a relaxing environment specifically engineered for the human body. The aircraft reimagines the entire sensory experience of flying, creating a space where different systems work in harmony to hold off jet lag before it even begins. 

The first thing a passenger may notice is the quietness of the cabin, offering a serene sanctuary above the clouds that is quieter than competing twin-aisle aircraft. Within this more relaxed atmosphere, passengers breathe easier thanks to a 6,000-feet average altitude cabin pressure.
