Toulouse, France, 12 May 2026 – Lufthansa Group has placed a firm order for 10 additional A350-900 aircraft to complement its existing fleet of 43 of the type and the soon to be delivered A350-1000. With this agreement, the airline group's total order for the A350 Family from Airbus is increasing to 75 units, including 15 A350-1000s.
“As Lufthansa celebrates the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first Lufthansa this year, at Airbus we are honoured to have been part of the airline’s history over the last decades. Lufthansa already operates one of the world's biggest A350 fleets. This additional order is a testament to the efficiency and comfort the A350 brings and we are proud to support Lufthansa Group’s continued fleet development” said Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.
Lufthansa has been operating Airbus aircraft for 50 years. Airbus’ partnership with Lufthansa started with the delivery of the first A300 in early 1976. Since then, the airline group has operated all members of the Airbus product family from the A220, A320-Family, A330, A340, the A350 and the A380.
The A350 is the world’s most modern widebody aircraft, designed to fly up to 9,700 nautical miles / 18,000 kilometres non-stop, setting new standards for intercontinental travel. The aircraft includes state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics delivering unmatched standards of efficiency and comfort. Its latest generation Rolls-Royce engines and use of lightweight materials bring a 25 per cent advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. The A350’s unique Airspace cabin offers passengers and crews the latest modern in-flight products for a comfortable flying experience.
As with all Airbus aircraft, the A350 is already able to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus is targeting to have its aircraft up to 100% SAF capable by 2030.
At the end of April 2026, the A350 Family had won over 1,550 firm orders from more than 65 customers worldwide, making it one of the most successful widebody aircraft ever.
