Lombok, Indonesia, 25 August 2018 – The Indonesian Government, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS) and the Airbus Foundation have delivered 24 tonnes of relief material including galvanized roof sheets, food supplies and ambulances from Jakarta to Lombok in Indonesia to support victims of the recent earthquakes in the area.

The mission was realised through a cooperation agreement between the Airbus Foundation and the CDCS, using an A400M transport aircraft provided by the French Air Force.

“We have all seen the devastation in the wake of the series of earthquakes in the Lombok region, and I speak for everyone at Airbus in wishing those who have lost so much a speedy recovery,” said Andrea Debbane, Executive Director of the Airbus Foundation. “Providing swift relief is the least we can and must do. I thank our partners involved in this project for their logistical support and their dedication.”

The A400M’s cargo included more than 20 tonnes of galvanized roof sheets, donated by the Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and food supplies, donated by the Indonesian Air Force, bringing much-needed relief to the region. One in ten residents no longer has a roof over their heads and thousands have been displaced in Lombok, where a large number of houses collapsed after the earthquakes that struck the island over the past three weeks.

The collection of the humanitarian goods was coordinated by the Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and received in Lombok by the National Disaster Relief Agency (BNPB). It will be distributed via the corporate social responsibility (CSR) networks of the Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, which are actively supporting the relief efforts.

The ambulances will support the ongoing medical relief work in Lombok and were donated by Wantannas, an Indonesian governmental organisation tasked with increasing the country’s resilience.
