The A350-900 version of Airbus’ A350 XWB jetliner will be able to fly even farther from 2020, thanks to increased fuel efficiency and an optional increased maximum takeoff weight (MTOW).
Contributing to the longer range are aerodynamic enhancements by Airbus and engine improvements to the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB powerplant, which together reduce A350-900 fuel consumption by two per cent. Combining this with the higher takeoff weight option of 280 metric tonnes enables the A350-900 to cover a distance of 8,100 nautical miles with a typical full passenger load – 500 nautical miles farther than at the jetliner’s entry-into-service in 2015.
