What is your name, job title, and where are you based?

My name is Javier; I am an MRO mechanic for the A400M in Getafe, and I also live in the same town.

Define your job title in one sentence

We are dedicated to maintaining our customers' aircraft, providing updates and/or upgrades, and incorporating new capabilities if desired; we adapt to each client and aircraft.

What’s one thing that makes your job exciting or special?

Working on a finished aircraft that is already in service—especially one like the A400M—makes the job special, and even more so when you watch it take off and return to base.

What inspired you to join Airbus?

Airbus is the industry benchmark. Everyone who loves aviation wants to work here, and I was no exception. I have been with the company for over s years, and I am still excited by the new projects currently launching and those yet to come, backed by a strong order book. I don’t see myself at any company in the future other than Airbus.

Is there something that surprised you about working for Airbus?

When you join Airbus and arrive on site for the first time, it's surprising—you aren't just entering a company, but a city. And this city continues to grow year after year.

Explain what you do in simple terms

One of my roles involves working on the aircraft structure. This ranges from installing new brackets for wire harness routing and replacing a fuselage frame to implementing new service bulletin requirements and functionality. Precision drills and riveting tools are my main work tools."

Another of my favourite tasks involves everything related to the engines and propellers. Here, we disassemble a propeller down to the very last component and rebuild it entirely.

How does your role contribute to Airbus’ mission or the success of its products?

My work ensures that our customers' aircraft are mission-ready, allowing them to carry out their operations safely.

What made you choose Airbus as the start of your career?

I enjoy growing professionally, and Airbus provides the opportunities to do exactly that.

How has Airbus supported your career growth or personal development?

I have had the honour of being selected for the “Prodshape 2024/2025 programme”, a leadership training initiative specifically for technicians and fitters. I had Head of Eurofighter as my mentor, an experience that has helped me grow both personally and professionally.

How has your career evolved since you joined Airbus?

From my start as a mechanic on the Eurofighter wings to my current role on the A400M, I feel that new opportunities to continue growing within this company are always presenting themselves.

What’s your most memorable experience at Airbus? Why does it stand out?

I had the pleasure of flying in the A400M; a raffle was held, and I was lucky enough to win a seat.

Is there a specific project or moment you’re particularly proud of? Why?

We carried out the replacement of 16 fuselage frame sections on an A400M. It was a high-precision job that spanned several months, and I felt a great sense of pride that everything was completed successfully.
