Our people and our aircraft stand at the core of Airbus’ mission to connect today and tomorrow. Across every site, we’re meeting the passionate aircraft builders who make us who we are.
Today, the spotlight is on Alex Sullivan, who is an aircraft fitter in Broughton, UK
What is your role at Airbus?
I work as an aircraft fitter within the A320 Family wing production line. My responsibilities include assembling the fixed shroud and initiating the installation of the overwing panel. I also fit sub-assembly parts to the wing’s leading and trailing edges, preparing it for the electrical and hydraulic components that will be added later. In addition to this, I also work in the Customer Inspection Suite, where I engage directly with airline representatives who visit Airbus Broughton to inspect the wings. My role is to ensure that we meet the required standards, guiding customers through the wing assembly process and addressing any quality adjustments they request before the wing moves to the final assembly line (FAL).
What is the best part of your job?
First is the opportunity to witness the entire production process on the A320 Family wing assembly line, from start to finish before the wings are flown to the FAL. Secondly, as a young aircraft fitter with ambitions to grow within Airbus, I appreciate the support I receive from my peers and management team. They understand my goals and actively help me work towards them, whether it’s pursuing leadership roles or exploring new positions outside my current role. Showing initiative and a desire to improve is actively recognised and encouraged here. I’m proud to work for a company that is committed to supporting my growth and development, as well as leading the change in reducing carbon emissions and helping to make aviation more sustainable.
What excites you most about the future of aviation?
I really am excited to see what AI can do for the aviation sector and how it may be integrated into manufacturing. Whether that be operations, safety, air traffic control or even the flying experience overall. I’m also interested in how relevant space exploration is becoming. Opportunities for commercial space travel are rising slowly, adding a whole new frontier for aviation.
Which Airbus Value do you feel the closest to?
Customer focus! Ensuring customer satisfaction is Airbus’ core priority and also mine whilst wearing my Airbus badge. My role is about making sure our aircraft meet the highest standard possible with both safety and quality to better serve our customers.
What is your favorite aircraft?
It has to be the A320. It's the backbone of Airbus and one many people have more than likely flown on.
