Jürgen Eckel was appointed Head of Strategy and Innovation and a member of the Executive Committee at Airbus Defence and Space on May 4, 2026. 

A seasoned tech entrepreneur and expert in venture building, Jürgen brings over 20 years of experience in developing digital businesses and scaling technological innovation across complex, regulated industries. 

Prior to joining Airbus, he led BCG X (Boston Consulting Group’s tech build and design unit) for the London, Amsterdam, and Brussels (LAB) region with a particular focus on regulated sectors. During his tenure, he worked with Airbus Defence and Space to build and operationalize a leading geospatial data platform, serving on the company´s board for multiple years.

Jürgen is recognized in AI, innovation strategy and digital ecosystems, having spearheaded the integration of advanced AI solutions within complex corporate environments.

Jürgen holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Passau and a Certificate in Technology Management from the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
