Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Aircraft business

Lars Wagner was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Commercial Aircraft business of Airbus in January 2026 and is a member of the Company's Executive Committee.
He joined the company from MTU Aero Engines AG in Munich, Germany, where he was Chief Executive Officer since January 2023. His responsibilities included engineering & technology, human resources, strategy, corporate communications and legal affairs. In addition, Lars led MTU's sustainability effort as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) from May 2022.
Prior to his appointment as CEO and since joining MTU in 2015, Lars notably assumed the roles of Chief Operating Officer from January 2018 to December 2022 and prior to that Executive Vice President in charge of OEM operations.
Lars initially completed an apprenticeship in aircraft manufacturing. He then went on to be an aircraft mechanic at Daimler Benz Aerospace (Airbus) in Bremen, Germany, in 1997. Later, he pursued studies in mechanical and aerospace engineering in Aachen, London and at MIT in the US, as well as Business Administration in Paris.
Following his studies, Lars Wagner returned to Airbus in 2003 and held several positions across Airbus’ home nation sites. These included roles in Flight Physics within the Engineering organisation and in Strategy, as the Senior Director Strategy Integration. In September 2011, Lars moved to Hamburg where he held successively the roles of Vice President Long Range Fuselage and Vice President A350 Fuselage until July 2015.
Born in 1975 in Cuxhaven, Germany, Lars Wagner holds a Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the University of Technology (RWTH), Aachen, Germany (2003) and a Master of Business and Administration (MBA) from Collège des Ingénieurs (2003). His education also includes studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, US, and Imperial College, London, UK.
