La primera entrega de un avión por parte del centro de fabricación estadounidense de Airbus (Airbus US Manufacturing Facility) tuvo lugar hoy, día 25 de abril, en Mobile, Alabama. Toda la plantilla de empleados de la cadena de montaje americana se reunió para presentar su primer producto completado, un Airbus A321, a JetBlue. Asistieron al evento ejecutivos de Airbus, la alta dirección de JetBlue, incluido su Presidente y CEO Robin Hayes, y un amplio espectro de dignatarios de la región de la costa del golfo.
“Es para mí un inmenso orgullo poder estar aquí hoy para participar en esta primera entrega de Mobile,” dijo John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer – Customers de Airbus.  Pasar del inicio de las obras en este emplazamiento hace tres años a entregar hoy el primer A321 producido en Alabama es un logro impresionante.  Apunta a la magnífica ejecución de este proyecto y a la solidez del trabajo en equipo aquí en Mobile y en todo Airbus.  El centro de fabricación estadounidense de Airbus (Airbus US Manufacturing Facility) ha aglutinado todos los mejores aspectos de las otras cadenas de montaje que tenemos por todo el mundo, mostrando cómo la gente de Airbus trabaja codo a codo con nuestros socios para entregar grandes aviones a nuestros clientes.”
Airbus anunció su compromiso de construir una cadena de montaje final de aviones de pasillo único en Mobile, Alabama en 2012, y menos de un año más tarde inició la construcción de la instalación, de 600 millones de dólares. La inauguración ceremonial de la planta tuvo lugar en septiembre de 2015.  El avión entregado hoy, un A321 para JetBlue, realizó con éxito su primer vuelo el 21 de marzo de 2016.
Además del A321 de JetBlue entregado hoy, hay otros nueve aviones de la familia A320 en fase de producción en el centro. Airbus prevé la entrega de cuatro aviones al mes de la planta de Mobile para finales de 2017.  Las primeras entregas serán todas de aviones de la familia A320 con los motores actuales (Current Engine Option - CEO), pero a partir de la última parte de 2017 se comenzará la transición a los derivados de nueva motorización (New Engine Option - NEO). 
Además de los cientos de nuevos trabajos en Airbus que el proyecto ha creado en la comunidad local, la zona de Mobile ha visto la apertura de nuevas instalaciones por parte de proveedores de Airbus, creando aún más empleo y reforzando a la vez la economía local.  Airbus se enorgullece de poder afirmar que el 87 por ciento de sus nuevos empleados proceden de la zona de la costa del golfo, siendo casi un tercio de ellos veteranos de las fuerzas armadas estadounidenses.
Confirmando el dicho “The Sun never Sets on Airbus” (El sol nunca se pone en Airbus) – ahora la compañía produce aviones las 24 horas del día, en instalaciones en Mobile, Alabama; Hamburgo, Alemania; Toulouse, Francia; y Tianjin, China.
