SPOT 6 captures the Wolf volcano eruption

Satellite image of Galapagos Volcano

On 27th of May, the Airbus Defence and Space SPOT 6 satellite took this picture of the Wolf volcano, in the Galapagos Islands (Ecuador). The image shows the volcano, which spectacularly erupted on 25th of May, with smoke clouds and a red line of lava.

The volcano, on the Isabela Island, began erupting last Monday for the first time in 33 years. As it is more than 100 km away from the nearest town, there is no risk to the local population.

Despite the continuing reduction in activity, the Ecuadorian authorities are constantly monitoring the volcano.
