Airbus hat heute, am 25. April, das erste in der Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, Alabama, gebaute Flugzeug ausgeliefert. Alle Mitarbeiter aus dem US-Montagewerk waren versammelt, um JetBlue ihr erstes fertiges Produkt – einen Airbus A321 – offiziell zu übergeben. Dem Anlass wohnten hochrangige Airbus-Vertreter, das Topmanagement von JetBlue, einschließlich Robin Hayes, President und CEO von JetBlue, sowie zahlreiche Würdenträger aus der Golfküstenregion bei. 
„Ich bin ausgesprochen stolz darauf, die Auslieferung des ersten Flugzeugs in Mobile hier miterleben zu können“, sagte John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer Customers von Airbus. „Hier wurde Großartiges geleistet – vom ersten Spatenstich für dieses Werk vor drei Jahren bis zur Übergabe der ersten in Alabama produzierten A321 am heutigen Tag. Dies ist ein klarer Beleg, wie gut dieses Projekt umgesetzt wurde und wie stark die Teamarbeit hier in Mobile und überall bei Airbus gewesen ist. Die Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility vereint die besten Aspekte unserer Montagelinien in aller Welt und zeigt, wie Airbus-Mitarbeiter mit unseren Partnern Hand in Hand arbeiten, um unseren Kunden hervorragende Flugzeuge zu liefern.“
Im Jahr 2012 gab Airbus seine Pläne für den Bau einer Endmontagelinie für Single-Aisle-Flugzeuge in Mobile, Alabama, bekannt. Ein knappes Jahr später erfolgte der erste Spatenstich für das US-Werk, in das Airbus rund 600 Mio. US-Dollar investierte. Im September 2015 folgte die feierliche Einweihung des Werks. Das heute ausgelieferte Flugzeug – eine A321 für JetBlue – hatte am 21. März 2016 erfolgreich ihren Erstflug absolviert.  
Zusätzlich zu der heute an JetBlue ausgelieferten A321 werden derzeit neun weitere Flugzeuge der A320-Familie im US-Werk endmontiert. Airbus will die Zahl der monatlichen Auslieferungen in Mobile bis Ende 2017 auf vier Flugzeuge hochfahren. Das Werk in Mobile wird zunächst ausschließlich A320-Flugzeuge mit der gegenwärtigen Triebwerksoption („Current Engine Option“, CEO) endmontieren, jedoch gegen Ende 2017 auf Modelle mit der neuen Triebwerksoption (New Engine Option, NEO) umstellen. 
Neben der Schaffung von Hunderten neuer Arbeitsplätze in der Region hat das Projekt dazu geführt, dass sich zahlreiche Airbus-Zulieferer in der Umgebung angesiedelt haben. Dies führte zu noch mehr Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten und kräftigen Impulsen für die lokale Wirtschaft. Airbus kann mit Stolz behaupten, dass 87 Prozent seiner neuen Mitarbeiter aus der Golfküstenregion stammen, von denen ein Drittel früher beim US-Militär tätig war. 
Airbus-Flugzeuge werden nun nach dem Motto „The Sun Never Sets on Airbus“ (Bei Airbus geht die Sonne niemals unter) rund um die Uhr und 24 Stunden am Tag in Werken produziert, die sich in Mobile (Alabama), Hamburg, (Deutschland), Toulouse (Frankreich) und Tianjin (China) befinden.
