Meet Natanael

Tell us about what you do

My name is Natanael and I am an aircraft mechanic at Airbus Helicopters Romania. My role involves inspecting, testing, and repairing various components of a helicopter. Essentially, it’s a bit like a car inspection. The helicopter is brought in, and we disassemble it to thoroughly inspect the components. If necessary, we order replacement parts or repair existing ones. Finally, we conduct functional tests to ensure that everything operates as intended.

What do you find exciting or special about your job?

My passion stems from the challenge of solving technical issues on helicopters, particularly when working with my team. I find great fulfillment in maintaining and repairing ambulance helicopters, especially when I am on-site ensuring the aircraft is operational and ready for use by the rescue team.

And what first inspired you to join Airbus?

During high school, I did an internship at Airbus, which gave me valuable insights into a significantly different approach to working systems and job functions. What stood out to me was the exceptional precision and meticulous precautions taken in completing tasks. This attention to detail was a significant source of motivation for me.

You’ve had quite a journey since then. How has your career evolved at Airbus?

In just four years, I have progressed to becoming an authorised mechanic, and I will soon obtain my EASA license. The culture at Airbus fosters growth and development, providing a supportive environment to enhance skills and advance professionally. For example, they supported me in obtaining an EASA license which has significantly contributed to my professional growth and ability to take on more responsibilities.

Is there a particular experience that stands out?

My most memorable experience at Airbus was working on an ambulance helicopter in Iași, Romania. The helicopter had encountered technical issues and needed to be quickly returned to service for an urgent mission. The sense of urgency and the knowledge that my efforts directly impacted the ability to provide critical care made this experience particularly meaningful. It stands out because it highlighted the importance of our work in supporting life-saving operations.

Which project or moment are you particularly proud of? 

Every project is exciting, but one that particularly stood out was serving as a flight observer during a flight test. It was a memorable experience, as I could witness firsthand the performance of the aircraft in flight, while also contributing to the overall testing process. The opportunity to be part of such a critical phase in the aircraft's development made it especially meaningful.

Which Airbus value resonates most with you?

The Airbus value that resonates with me the most is ‘teamwork’. Working closely with my colleagues, especially in high-pressure situations, has shown me the importance of collaboration and mutual support. We rely on each other's expertise and experience to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in our work. What I appreciate most is the team I work with. We consistently support one another, fostering an environment where we can all grow and develop together.

Finally, what advice would you give to someone considering a career in this field, or elsewhere at Airbus?

Stay motivated and always seek opportunities to learn. Don't be afraid; it's not as complicated as it may seem. It doesn't require superhuman strength; rather, it's about precision, focus, and the willingness to learn and adapt. Seize every opportunity to learn and grow.
