The C295’s dependable long-time on station makes it the perfect platform for maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare missions.

Proven during operational missions as a Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) and deployed in Anti-Submarine Warfare/Anti-Surface Warfare (ASW/ASuW) duties, the C295 represents a modern, risk-free, and much more efficient alternative to older generation veterans such as the P-3 Orion or the Bréguet Atlantic, while its operating and maintenance costs are significantly lower.

In the maritime patrol and surveillance role, the Portuguese Air Force uses the C295 to patrol Portugal’s huge Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ) – including areas around the Azores and Madeira islands. The Chilean Navy and Brazilian Air Force also use the C295 for search and rescue (SAR) missions in oceanic areas.

The Canadian Air Force is one of the largest C295 customers, with 16 aircraft ordered for maritime patrol, SAR and MEDEVAC operations. The Irish Air Corps will also replace its CN235 fleet with the C295 maritime surveillance, as well as in support of special operations missions, MEDEVAC capabilities in hostile areas, and for pollution control.

The C295 Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) version is equipped with Airbus’ in-house-developed Fully Integrated Tactical System (FITS) tactical system, and is fitted with underwing stations to carry weapons and other stores. In addition to launching sonobuoys, the C295 can deploy torpedoes, anti-surface missiles, mines and depth charges. Chile has acquired the C295 for service in ASW missions.
