The C295 can be rapidly converted into a tactical tanker with a roll-on/roll-off kit, enabling it to perform day and night air-to-air refuelling (AAR) of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

This air-to-air refuelling kit’s installation is facilitated by its loading via the C295’s rear ramp. The system provides the C295 with a centreline hose-and-drogue system that is fully electrically powered, allowing refueling operations at a fraction of the cost of heavier aircraft platforms. The C295 in-service fleet can benefit from the capability, as the AAR kit is independent from the basic aircraft systems, and therefore only minimum modifications are required.

For tactical tanking, the maximum fuel offload capacity is six tonnes, with a fuel offload rate of up to 200 U.S. gallons per minute, regulated up to 50 PSIG. The C295 refuels helicopters at a speed range of 105-130 KIAS, up to altitudes of 10,000 ft.; while its operational envelope for fixed-wing aircraft refuelling allows speeds of 180-210 KIAS and altitudes up to 18,000 ft.

As a true force multiplier for combat SAR and other missions, the C295 AAR can provide five tonnes of fuel offload during two refuelling operations (inbound-outbound), including four hours with the aircraft in a standby position at 300 nm from the main operating base.
