Created for the curious of heart and mind

Can algae fuel aircraft? Will drones deliver food to our doorstep? How will robots help us better and more safely build aircraft? Will we ever live on the Moon? These are some of the questions asked (and answered!) by the Discovery Space Learning Guides. This series of emails is designed to help school-aged children from 8 to 12 years old think critically about what they want their future to be like. Topics are future-focused and tackle a specific theme, such as Future Cities, Future Factories, Future Skies, Future Space and more.

Each Learning Guide consists of the following elements:

  • An animated video
  • A do-it-yourself activity to build, design and/or research a specific concept
  • A quiz to test knowledge on the dedicated topic (answers are provided in the next edition!)

For educators, the Learning Guides can help them prepare to support their students’ understanding of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) concepts and practices. In doing so, they can nurture their young students in developing the skills they need to pursue a career in the field. For parents, the Learning Guides offer an educational after-school activity, a fun family night game or an amusing Friday night distraction.

Inspiring kids to get excited about STEM

All of the content included in the Learning Guides is crafted by Airbus experts with a passion for sharing their love of aerospace with the next generation. The numerous hands-on activities enable kids to follow the steps that real-life engineers take to design a solution to a problem, thereby helping to boost kids’ critical-thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Airbus strongly believes that education is one of the most powerful vehicles for social progress. This is why the Airbus Foundation launched the Discovery Space programme in 2018. The programme also acts as a science education partner that helps educators and parents engage with students on STEM topics.

Discovery Space’s flagship online portal is designed to help young people understand science through the exciting and ever-changing world of aerospace. To better engage with audiences from a variety of backgrounds, all Discovery Space content is now available in four core languages: English, French, German and Spanish.
