Ricardo Capilla to lead Airbus in Mexico

Airbus has appointed Ricardo Capilla, Mexican native, as the Head of Country for Airbus in Mexico. Ricardo is the Managing Director for Airbus Helicopters and will also serve as the leading Airbus representative in Mexico.

“I am very proud to be back in my native Mexico leading the company where I started my aeronautical career,” said Capilla. “For Airbus, Mexico represents more than a key market; we see ourselves as partners, working together on the development of Mexico’s aerospace industry and providing market solutions thorugh our products and services.”

Capilla joined Airbus (formerly known as Eurocopter) in 2003, as a Regional Helicopter Sales Representative in Mexico, before being promoted to lead helicopter sales for half of Latin America. In 2009, Capilla moved to Airbus Helicopters’ French headquarters, holding a variety of posts and eventually ascending to the post of Corporate Secretary and Chief of Staff for the Airbus Helicopters CEO, where he led Corporate Security, Political Affairs, Audits, Crisis Management and Responsibility & Sustainability.

Born in Mexico City, Capilla was awarded an athletic scholarship to study at the Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States where he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Science in Business. Capilla also studied International Business at Ecole Superieure de Commerce in Marseille, France.

Mexico among Airbus’ largest aerospace markets in Latin America. Airbus established its first Helicopter Customer Center in Mexico City 30 years ago, offering MRO activities, sales, training and customization. Further increasing its commitment there, Airbus opened an industrial plant in the State of Querétaro in 2013 to produce emergency exit and bulk cargo doors for Airbus commercial aircraft. In 2016, Airbus opened the Mexico Training Centre (AMTC) in Mexico City, offering a full range of training services for crews operating A320 Family aircraft in Mexico and Latin America.

Airbus is the commercial aviation market leader in Mexico, with more than 60 percent market share of the country’s in-service fleet. Mexico is also the largest operator of Airbus military transport aircraft in Latin America, with 22 airlifters flying in the country’s service. Currently, there are more than 420 Airbus helicopters flying in the region served from Mexico in civil, parapublic and military configurations. Mexico also serves as the headquarters of the Latin America offices for the Airbus Defence and Space Secure Line Communications (SLC) business unit.
