Mexican Interjet to acquire ten additional A320s

The Mexican low-cost carrier Interjet has signed a contract with Airbus at the end of December 2006 for the acquisition of ten additional A320s, hereby converting their options into a firm order. These were part of an order for ten A320s plus ten options placed at the Paris Air Show in June 2005.

Interjet is based at Toluca airport near Mexico City, and recently celebrated its first anniversary of scheduled services in the Mexican domestic market.

"It was Interjet who introduced the low-fares air transport services concept in the Mexican industry, whilst preserving the highest standards of service quality and security for travellers on domestic routes in Mexico", said Miguel Alemán Magnani, President of Interjet. "The A320 offers the ideal combination of the lowest operating costs and the highest level of passenger comfort, security and operational reliability."

"We are very pleased and honoured with this proof of confidence from Interjet. In only one year this airline has carried more than one million passengers in Mexico. The A320 is clearly the right choice for the highly competitive low-cost global industry and we are proud to be once more a part in the development of a new carrier", said John Leahy, COO Customers of Airbus.

The A320 Family, recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family, also includes the A318, the A319 and A321 versions and features the newest and most modern design of any single-aisle airliner, with a passenger pleasing cabin that is popular with travellers - as independent surveys demonstrate. An advanced fuel-saving aerodynamic design, including wingtip fences, centralised maintenance with extended servicing intervals, and proven reliability in day-to-day service help to give it the lowest running costs.

More than 4,900 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been ordered to date of which almost 3,000 have been delivered. The Airbus A320 Family has more than 180 customers and operators to its credit.

Airbus is an EADS company.
