Supplier performance is recognised for companies that provide the “puzzle pieces” for Airbus aircraft

The construction of an Airbus aircraft is much like putting together a puzzle, according to Didier Lux, Executive Vice President - Customer Services.  Each of the countless pieces is crucial, he explains, and all must fit perfectly for everything to come together in meeting the high standards for quality and reliability, as well as delivery timing.
“The efficiency of our aircraft production relies on the efficiency of all – which includes the vital contribution of Airbus’ supply chain,” Lux added.
Airbus spotlighted a group of systems and equipment manufacturers whose performance contributes to this “puzzle,” recognizing their performance at its annual supplier awards ceremony during this week’s Farnborough Airshow.
Lux presented awards to a selected list of companies that have achieved outstanding customer satisfaction from the worldwide supply chain.  This industrial network provides parts as small as ventilating fans to larger and more complex elements as avionics and landing gear.
“In the end, our performance not only depends on Airbus, it also is the result of a partnership in which our suppliers play a key role in delivering the right products,” Lux said.
At this week’s Farnborough Airshow supplier event, Gold Awards were presented to companies recognised for their sustained delivery of exceptional customer support performance, as well as being in the top 10 ranking for five or more years.  These suppliers are: onboard systems manufacturer Airbus Kid Systeme/Airbus Cabin Systems; avionics/electronics suppliers Airbus Avionics, Diehl Aerospace, Rockwell Collins Avionics and Thales Avionics; along with Technofan, a manufacturer of small fans and valves.
Receiving Silver Awards for their exceptional customer support performance and being in the top 10 rankings were seat manufacturer EADS Sogerma; electrical aircraft systems supplier Hamilton Sundstrand; Nord Micro, a provider of cabin pressure/ ventilation systems and other products; and Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s landing gear and system integration division.
Aircelle, which is a supplier of engine nacelles and related components, took home the “Most Improved Supplier” status based on its upward move of 14 positions in Airbus’ supplier rating, and a 4.32 point gain compared to the previous year.
