JetBlue Airways brings a highly symbolic jetliner to the future home of Airbus’ U.S. A320 Family final assembly line

Only hours after Airbus announced its historic decision to develop the U.S. A320 Family final assembly line in Mobile, Alabama, a “first” aircraft already was being presented at the future Brookley Aeroplex production site.

This specially-chartered guest was an A320 from the JetBlue Airways fleet, which landed on Mobile Downtown Airport’s main runway at the Brookley Aeroplex, and was parked where Airbus’ new facility will begin taking shape next year.

VIPs who had attended Airbus’ morning announcement at the Mobile Convention Center were accompanied by a ceremonial police escort along the four-mile distance to Brookley Aeroplex, where a family photo was taken in front of the awaiting jetliner, followed by a brief aircraft tour.

JetBlue Airways President and CEO Dave Barger was on hand to welcome the group planeside, noting it was particularly appropriate for the aircraft to be on hand at today’s event – as his carrier is the largest A320 operator worldwide.
