Vehicle demonstrators

Vehicle demonstrators

Our vehicle demonstrators enable us to define a path for the future generation of aerial vehicles. We are currently developing and testing two electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) demonstrators that are designed to be fully autonomous and emission-free.

Vahana

Vahana is an all-electric, single-seat, tilt-wing vehicle demonstrator that focuses on advancing self-piloted, electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flight. To date, Vahana has flown over 50 full-scale test flights, totalling over 5 flight hours.

CityAirbus

The CityAirbus was presented on March 11 at the City of Ingolstadt to members of the German government and the public. Citizens had the opportunity to ask Airbus experts questions about the vehicle and the concept of Urban Air Mobility. Airbus and Ingolstadt believe that a dialogue between manufacturer, authorities and the public are a prerequisite for the successful introduction of Urban Air Mobility in the infrastructure of cities. Airbus and Ingolstadt are partners in the framework of the EU’s EIP-SCC initiative for smart cities.

Two vehicle demonstrators: Vahana & CityAirbus

Airbus Urban Mobility oversees the development of two eVTOL vehicle demonstrators: Vahana and CityAirbus. Both vehicle demonstrators represent the twin pillars of our initial vehicle demonstrator strategy, which focused on exploring two electric-powered vehicle prototypes based on different configurations and technologies.

Pop.Up NEXT: a multi-modal concept vehicle

A collaborative joint research project with Italdesign and Audi, Pop.Up NEXT is a ground-and-air concept vehicle that explores multi-modality in urban settings. The modular design enables Pop.Up NEXT to drive autonomously on the ground and lift into the air vertically to avoid city congestion. It consists of two modular components: a ground vehicle module shaped as a passenger capsule and an electric-propelled air vehicle module.
