Airbus successfully tests firefighting kit on A400M
Products & Services
Airbus has successfully tested a removable firefighting demonstrator kit on the A400M new generation airlifter during a flight test campaign in Spain. The test campaign took place in daylight conditions with a minimum operating height of 150ft, flight speeds as low as 125 knots and drops involving up to 20 tonnes of water from the current tank in less than 10 seconds. The main objective of the campaign is to validate the drop water quantity and time as well as the ability of the A400M to carry out this new role with the kit.

Direct air carbon capture and storage for aviation, explained
Sustainability
What may sound like science fiction to many is now fast becoming reality. Direct Air Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS) – which removes human-induced CO2 directly from the air – could help multiple industries meet their net-zero carbon emissions targets. For hard-to-abate industries like aviation, it is emerging as a promising complementary solution to sustainable aviation fuel and hydrogen.

Could an open fan engine cut carbon emissions for more sustainable aviation?
Innovation
The technologies being developed for the next-generation fuel-efficient propulsion systems – and whose progress Airbus follows closely – are taking shape at all the big aero-engine makers, here we focus on one of these: CFM International’s “open fan” technology.
The open fan architecture is a key component of the engine maker’s “Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines” (RISE) technology development programme – which aims to demonstrate and mature a range of new technologies for future engines that could enter service by the mid-2030s.
