Urban air mobility leverages the sky to better link people to cities and regions, giving them more possibilities to connect. At Airbus, we believe urban air mobility can positively contribute to a multimodal mobility system. Urban air transport opens up new possibilities for city development, and loved ones are no longer quite so far away.

Urban air mobility: safe, low-carbon and convenient

By 2030, 60% of the world's population will be urban. This significant population growth is expected to create a real need for innovative mobility options as ground infrastructure becomes increasingly congested. Providing people with a safe, low-carbon and convenient solution that leverages the airspace above cities could be a solution.

Since 2014, Airbus has been exploring how recent technology advancements – from battery capacity and autonomy to electric propulsion – can help drive the development of new kinds of aerial vehicles. In May 2018, we created Airbus Urban Mobility to take our exploration into cutting-edge commercial urban air mobility solutions and services to the next level.

Airbus Urban Mobility focuses on better connecting people by bringing the safety, convenience and joy of flight to city inhabitants. To do so, it takes a holistic approach to urban air mobility, seamlessly integrating a variety of critical components.

Ushering in the next generation of CityAirbus, the fully electric vehicle is equipped with fixed wings, a V-shaped tail, and eight electrically powered propellers as part of its uniquely designed distributed propulsion system.
