The French Armament General Directorate (DGA) has signed a contract, on behalf of the Ministry of Interior, for the procurement and maintenance of 10 H160s in a law enforcement configuration for the Gendarmerie Nationale.
Airbus Helicopters, Inc. (AHI) has delivered the first of 16 new H125 helicopters uniquely configured for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Air and Marine Operations (AMO). AMO collaborated with AHI as part of a long-term fleet upgrade initiative, and the resulting configuration has led to one of the most advanced, high-tech law enforcement helicopters ever developed.
The results of a survey conducted by Helibras with the operators of around 90 Airbus helicopters deployed during the 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympics showed that the fleet achieved 98% availability. The aircraft were used for security, defence, and as camera platforms.
The German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen (NRW) has now become the second customer to receive the H145 in police configuration. On 7 September 2016, the local minister of interior Ralf Jäger handed over the first of 6 H145s to the Dusseldorf police squadron. The helicopter squadron averages around 2,000 missions a year.
The Summer Olympics and Paralympics capture hearts and minds as world champions go for the gold – and they’re not the only ones who must deliver peak performances: Rio police chief Colonel Perlingeiro and Airbus Helicopters are hard at work around the clock to ensure a safe Games for all involved.
The helicopters are being used to perform surveillance, counter-terrorism, defense, public security and image-capturing missions and will be supported by Airbus Helicopters’ local customer center Helibras.
