Airbus has confirmed that Volotea, the Barcelona-based airline, is to recruit eleven of its Airbus pilot cadets. The move is an endorsement of the quality of Airbus’ Ab-Initio Training Programme, which opened its doors in 2018. The programme equips cadets with the skills and mindset needed to become an “operationally-ready pilot”, focusing on the development of key pilot competencies.

LATAM Airlines is to upgrade their A320 Family fleet with Airbus’ “Descent Profile Optimisation” (DPO) function – a fuel-saving enhancement to the aircraft’s on-board Flight Management System (FMS) performance database. This upgrade will be performed on over 200 of their A320 family fleet, becoming the biggest Airbus fleet equipped with this powerful fuel saving solution.

The aviation Digital Alliance, the partnership initiated by Airbus and Delta TechOps in 2019, is expanding to include GE Digital. The vision for the expanded Digital Alliance is to further develop real solutions that curb operational disruptions, drive progress in unplanned maintenance events and ultimately benefit global commercial operators’ bottom-line financial performance.

Volotea, the Barcelona-based airline, has chosen Airbus to train all its pilots following the signature of an exclusive five-year contract.

For 11 hours each workday – and sometimes longer – the flight simulators at Airbus’ Single Test Centre, or STC, are kept busy. It’s at the Saint-Martin campus in Toulouse, France that simulators for all Airbus commercial aircraft are housed – from in-development models that have yet to take wing, through each and every in-service model, to the Airbus aircraft of yesteryear no longer in production.
