STYRIS®

One Solution for Maritime Safety & Security

STYRIS® is the single product line from Airbus for collecting, processing, consolidating, enriching, distributing and displaying data from a wide range of maritime sensors. The software consolidates data gathered from sensors like Radars, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Radio Direction Finders (RDF), Cameras, Weather Stations and Sonars.

 

STYRIS® was developed to achieve the best ergonomic Human Machine Interface (HMI) for operator’s tasks to maintain awareness of the complete traffic image generated from consolidated data of the sensors and external systems. STYRIS® provides intuitive means for the operator to retrieve detailed information related to the objects displayed on the traffic image and to interact with the integrated functions, such as sensor settings and camera controls.

 

STYRIS® implements and delivers turnkey systems covering the full spectrum of Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) from both safety and security perspective. Typical applications are for Vessel Traffic Services (VTS), Coastal Surveillance Systems (CSS) and maritime Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems.

 

STYRIS® unique software, developed in house specifically for maritime applications, can be tailored to suit the highest level of customer requests for port authorities, ministry of defence, navies, coast guard, police and private companies.

Strategic Capabilities

Vessel Traffic Services (VTS)

Our Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) systems provide operators with an overview of their areas of interest, enabling them to monitor and to respond to critical maritime Our Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) systems provide operators with an overview of their areas of interest, enabling them to monitor and to respond to critical maritime situations. Moreover VTS allows operators to quickly communicate to all relevant authorities.

 

Core of this system are the unique software modules and hardware components which are being developed and improved since more than 25 years in house. This system uses a sensor network which may include:

 

•            Radars

•            AIS base stations

•            Radio Direction Finders

•            Cameras and Thermal Imagers

 

Since each area is different, the feature set and deployment of each sensor network is geared to the specific needs of the particular area.

Our unique VTS software oversees the management of this sensor network and combines the various inputs to a specific tracked vessel or other target. It can also link this vessel track to existing historical database information either locally or internationally. All operations are continuously archived including tracks, raw radar video, operator actions, voice communications as well as camera and imager video.

The primary applications for VTS systems are port operations, coastal and waterway management. 

 
Coastal Surveillance System (CSS)

Many countries have genuine concerns for the integrity of their borders and for the protection of shore based resources. As coastal areas contain considerable potential to become a crime scene, leaving such areas unsupervised can become a security threat.

Our coastal surveillance technology is built upon the fundamental structure of VTS and offers all these features, but also adds the capability to detect, track and identify even the smallest targets. These key features contribute to our success in this field. In addition new feature sets provide unique tools for this application:

 

  • Multiple parallel tracking to detect and track small targets even in the presence of large vessels
  • Day and night cameras and thermal imagers which can be programmed for independent scan or slave to radar tracking
  • Decision aid software with preplanned protocols to prevent interdiction decision making
  • A structure designed around multiple control centers spread across large areas with multiple layers of authority
  • Information access and sharing between diverse authorities such as customs, immigration, navy and coast guard, including databases of local and world authorities. All while maintaining operational security among agencies
  • Integration of views of sea and air activity
  • Overall maritime domain awareness coupled with land border awareness for overall control
  • Complete archiving and overall system health and monitoring

Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP)

It is often necessary to locate valuable infrastructure assets in potentially dangerous or difficult to protect areas. These sites might include nuclear plants, oil and other energy platforms, rigs, floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO), terminals and military sites. Taking the not negligible threat of world terrorism into account, authorities recognize a need to deploy technologies to monitor, detect and enable protective measures for such sites.

Our surveillance technology includes a number of specialized features for detecting, tracking, identifying suspected threats and communicating information to the responsible authorities. Such a system is organized around a network of sensors which typically include Radar (sea and land), AIS, and various types of Cameras, Optronics, Frequency Agile Radio Direction Finders and sometimes Sonar Diver Detectors. Voice communications are channeled and ancillary data are also communicated on this network.

 

These systems use similar technologies and tools as those used for coast surveillance applications, but are specially adapted to the specific environment of use.

This digital transformation of customer services complements our new product STYRIS® and is known as STYRIS® Line. Utilizing the feedback attained via the user conferences, the STYRIS® Forum, customer surveys and knowledge attained from training course critiques we implemented unique digital applications to enable efficient two-way communication and services via a single portal called STYRIS® Line.

 

The STYRIS® Line Standard Services allow you to effectively administer and maintain your STYRIS® product regardless of your organization’s size or complexity, to achieve the optimum system availability throughout the lifecycle of your product.

 

In addition STYRIS® Line allows selecting the most appropriate support required to meet your technical and budgetary needs via a catalogue approach.

 

The catalogue is sub-divided into specific elements which are designed to encompass the full spectrum of customer services - these elements known as leaflets, have been digitally transformed to utilize the latest technologies in the provision of customer services where appropriate.

 

 

Our services are delivered via our teams within Europe, regional hubs located in Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Taiwan and China or via our approved partners.

Our team is committed to support our legacy systems in accordance with contractual obligations. Customers who have not migrated to one or more of our third generation STYRIS® products will still profit from our services transformation.

Innovation and Demonstration facility

Airbus is proud to perform development, innovation and demonstration of STYRIS® in Airbus’ unique innovation and demonstration facility located in La Ciotat France.  Airbus is able to conduct development and evaluation of the STYRIS® portfolio under real use conditions. Innovations and adaptions to the STYRIS®  technology can be tested immediately what makes STYRIS® a leading edge technology.

 

To Airbus customer experience and satisfaction with each system is an elemental pillar in the way we do business. Airbus is proud to offer customers the possibility to experience the full spectrum of STYRIS® capabilities at our innovation and demonstration facility. In this environment, located in the south of France, 40km east of Marseille, the systems and its capabilities can be tested under real life maritime conditions. The demonstration system features a wide range of sensors such as Radars, Electro Optics, Radio Direction Finders, Maritime Communication and Metrological Sensors.
