DAY 34

DAY 34

HOW THE FAMILY GREW

Canada becomes fifth home country and A220 the newest family member

Partnership is in our DNA. Right back at the beginning of Airbus, four countries signed an agreement to join together and share their talents, with a vision to make flying more accessible for all.

So when, on 1 July 2018, Airbus signed an agreement to bring Canadian expertise and talent into the family under the A220 programme, it was a significant moment of partnership in the spirit of our early Airbus pioneers.

The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100- to 150-seat market, which is estimated to represent at least 7,000 aircraft over the next 20 years.

We’re now working to bring this game-changing plane to the world as the newest member of the Airbus family, allowing passengers around the globe to catch a glimpse of new places from the A220’s large windows.

Since the A220 joined the family, Airbus has been building on a legacy of nearly 35 years in Canada, recently naming Canada the fifth ‘home country’, the first outside of Europe.

What does this mean? Canada is now an important locus of research, development and pioneering product innovation for Airbus.

Did you know...

The Canadian Aerospace industry is the fifth largest in the world, fuelled by a rich pool of talent and experience, supported by a dynamic education system, strong supplier network and healthy research environment.

Airbus has a new “home” in Mirabel, Québec where the A220 programme and its primary final assembly line are located. The Canadian-designed A220 is a world-class product for which Airbus has recently inaugurated a new final assembly line in Mobile, Alabama to serve the US market.

The Canadian Aerospace industry is the fifth largest in the world, fuelled by a rich pool of talent and experience, supported by a dynamic education system, strong supplier network and healthy research environment.

As part of the Airbus family, Canadian aerospace ingenuity will continue to be front and centre on the world stage.

Together, we will work to build the future of aerospace, investing meaningfully in people, communities and economic growth along the way.
