Michael Schoellhorn is Airbus Chief Operating Officer (COO) and a member of the company’s Executive Committee. He is responsible for production, quality management, and procurement for commercial aircraft business. As the company embarks on an era of digital and series manufacturing, Michael’s role is to develop the production system of the future. Michael is also a member of the Supervisory Board of Airbus Operations GmbH in Germany.
He joined Airbus in February 2019 from BSH Home Appliances, a leading manufacturer of home appliances, owned by the Bosch Group. He was Chief Operating Officer and a member of the company’s Management Board from 2015 until his departure in 2019.
Michael started out his career with Bosch in 1999. He held various senior management positions in the US, the Czech Republic and Germany until he was appointed Executive Vice-President for Manufacturing and Quality in the group’s automotive sector in 2012. During his time at Bosch, Michael gained a broad expertise in digitalisation, end-to-end process optimisation, manufacturing, engineering, quality and supply chain management.
Before joining Bosch, Michael worked in academia as a research assistant at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg (1994-1999). He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Control Engineering, both from the Helmut Schmidt University. Michael began his career in 1984 in the German armed forces, where he served as an officer and a helicopter pilot until 1994.
Michael is a member of the Baden Baden Entrepreneur Talks, a discussion forum for German business and political leaders. He is married with two children, and outside of his professional life, he enjoys skiing, hiking and travelling.
