When Prema applied to a job offer at Airbus, she was restarting her career after a career break. Starting over sounded scary, but with great confidence and inspiration to work for an international pioneer in the aerospace sector, she was well prepared for the leap.
As soon as she started as a Human Resources Business Partner for Defence & Space division in India in November 2011, she was hooked. Prema has stepped into this new chapter of her life, and took over the role of Head of Human Resources for Defence and Space in India where she proudly saw how Airbus India was growing in its business and presence.
“I have been working with Airbus for 9 years and my journey has been very enriching since then. I feel very privileged for being part of this success story for my country.”
Along the organizational transformation of Airbus as one roof company concept, Prema had the opportunity to work on stimulating projects, divestment of electronic business line and merging of entities into one single organization. “The experience of working on these projects with internal and external business stakeholders have been enormous.” Prema says with great amount of satisfaction.
In 2017, she moved to a new role as Human Resources Leader for the Airbus site in Delhi. The organization development and the support in setting up of a new business in this region such as the training center were the key highlights of her mission. Partnering with each business division, such as Defence & Space, Helicopters and the Customer Services organization, has been an amazing challenge that Prema will never forget, especially for the unconditional support that she received from her colleagues, mentors and leaders within her team.
Today, as Senior Human Resources Business Partner and Head of Culture & Change, Inclusion and Diversity, Prema feels extremely rewarded to act as an ambassador of the Airbus culture. Inclusiveness and People centricity are the core values that she takes at heart. “The ‘We are One’ spirit and the collaborative working environment are the main drivers that keep us going strong. At Airbus India, we partner with leadership, employee resource groups and teams to foster Inclusion and Diversity at workplace. There is good assimilation of bottom up and top down approach which enables us to work on our new ways of working with the changes that is required to be adopted as a family.”
“My passion for coaching and mentoring helps me to support people in discovering their strengths and teach them how to reach their goals. The empowerment that I enjoy in bringing changes and the opportunity to create value to business and to our people is probably the main reason why I decided to join Airbus. The sustainable commitment to the world and the positive impact on people are essential to me.”
Among her memorable experiences, Prema feels very honored for having launched the FLY Again – Women Returnee Program, an ambitious project for women professionals who want to return to corporate careers after a sabbatical or maternity leave.
“Airbus believes in creating equal opportunities for all and our goal is to increase diversity and inclusion at the workplace, contributing to long-term business success. Last but not least, the experience that I had working with children and students of underprivileged schools on STEM topics is an experience that will forever be engraved in my heart.”
