“As a working mom, I find Airbus a very family-friendly employer. Before as a team leader and today managing over 100 people, I have been able to arrange both my family and professional lives with a 35-hour working week, by having clear priorities and a trusting culture at work,” says Monika from Germany.
Monika joined the Airbus Family in 2002, while completing the thesis from her Aeronautical Engineering degree. Over her career at Airbus, she has held multiple roles – From working as customer focal point for the Avionic Upgrade Programmes; as technical project leader for Mission Support and ground systems; team leader for different avionic system and software areas and since 2019 she is the Head of WS Tornado.
Alongside her job, Monika is passionate about supporting young women into pursuing STEM careers. For some years, she has been mentoring female students at Technical University of Munich; organizing the “Airbus Engineering Day in Manching” and recently has joined the Airbus MINT Club.
Her advice for young women in STEM? “Be open and look for mentors that are more experienced in your field, with whom you can share your ambitions and ask for guidance. Listen carefully, to yourself and others – then build your own mind set, brick by brick!”
The motto "Climb the castle, girls!" has empowered Monika to follow her career path into leadership roles: "It stayed in my mind and heart to stop thinking too much and simply try out!"
