Apprenticeships in the UK

Airbus offers apprenticeships at its both UK sites - Broughton, North Wales and Filton, near Bristol. All our apprenticeship programmes are of three years duration and run partly at Airbus’ UK sites and partly at our partnership colleges or universities.

The application process for Apprenticeship applications for 2012 entry is now closed.

For apprenticeship opportunities in 2013, please check our website from September 2012.

About the apprenticeship programmes

We now offer an enhanced Higher or ‘Undergraduate Apprenticeship’ in Engineering, which leads to a BEng with Honours (Aeronautical Engineering Manufacture) in the third year. For those interested in a career in engineering, this programme provides a real alternative to university, combining vocational and academic training, together with on-the-job experience.

We have also reviewed our Craft Apprenticeship which will now includes a new qualification containing a significant element of training on composites materials.  Composites are an essential part of new wing technology at Airbus, and will be used extensively in the A350XWB wings.

Our programmes combine college or university studies with practical training, which is why we work closely with our partnership colleges and universities to deliver these top quality apprenticeship programmes.

It's not all work and no play though!  We believe that personal learning outside of the workplace is an important part of individual development.

During their first year, all our apprentices, from France, Germany, Spain and the UK, spend a week on an Outward Bound course at Eskdale in the Lake District. Activities include orienteering, raft building and mountaineering, as well as planning and presenting. The aim is to help them get to grips with the Airbus values that will help them in their future development and career progression.

With sites also in France, Germany and Spain, intercultural awareness among our employees is essential to our business. For this reason, all our apprentices join our Intercultural Competencies Programme, which gives them Intercultural Competency Training and the chance to apply for an Intercultural Development Placement in one of our sites in Europe.

Our apprentices are encouraged to act as Airbus representatives at a wide variety of events, such as Airshows, careers events and schools liaison activities amongst many others. They were also prominent at the recent opening of Airbus’ North Factory facility in Broughton, North Wales, where the wings for the new A350XWB will be made.

The Applications to the UK Early Careers section tells you how the application process works and about eligibility criteria.
