On 1 December 2010, Airbus announced a new fuel-efficient engine option for the company’s A319, A320 and A321 – the A320neo – which is to significantly boost the environmental performance and overall cost-efficiency of these jetliners. In this video clip, Airbus’ Chief Operating Officer – Customers John Leahy provides details on the A320neo – which offers airline customers a choice between CFM International’s LEAP-X and Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1000G.  The A350 XWB final assembly line – located near Airbus’ existing A330 jetliner assembly facility in Toulouse, France – has been thought out with efficiency in mind to obtain a shorter assembly time and a more effective test programme. When A350 XWB production reaches full capacity, the complete process, from the beginning of final assembly through delivery to the customer, will take two and a half months, which represents a 30 per cent time-saving compared with the other programmes.

 During a very special delivery ceremony, the first out of 5 aircraft ordered was handed over from Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders, to China Southern Airlines Chairman Si Xianmin. China Southern Airlines becomes the 7th A380 operator globally. Four years after entry into service, 57 A380s have flown for over 350,000 hours with more than 15 million passengers – many of whom actually detour to be able to fly on one.

The type certification process demonstrates an aircraft’s compliance with all applicable airworthiness requirements – more simply, that it is safe for public transportation.
