Enhancing operations and increasing capacity
Warsaw Chopin Airport has signed a contract for the ELISE (Exact Landing Interference Simulation Environment) Airbus guidance consulting service that will help further improve operations at Warsaw’s airport. ELISE is a simulation tool that will be used in cooperation with the partner companies with Airbus for this contract, ARUP and Airsight. The airport is the first customer in Central and Eastern Europe to select this new specialised consulting service offered by Airbus.
Developed by Airbus in partnership with EADS Innovation Works – the research and development arm of Airbus parent EADS – along with France’s Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile- French Civil Aviation University – and commercialised by the Airbus Business Nursery, this technology predicts interference to an airport’s ground-based Instrument Landing System (ILS) signal. The signal provides reliable guidance to approaching and landing aircraft, especially in reduced visibility conditions, and is sensitive to interference caused by objects near the runway such as other aircraft, buildings and objects.
Accurately predicting interferences such as these, ELISE is aimed at enabling high precision landing capability and securing all-weather operations, increasing runway capacity and reducing missed approaches and diversions linked to weather whilst allowing the optimisation of airside land usage – allowing for buildings to be built nearby without disrupting the facility’s Instrument Landing System.
