Volaris takes delivery of the first two directly ordered Airbus A319

31 May 2006 Press Release

Volaris, a Mexican low fares airline based in Toluca, close to Mexico City, has received the first two Airbus A319 directly ordered from Airbus, during a delivery ceremony held at the manufacturer's Hamburg factory. In January 2006, the new Mexican start-up airline signed a contract with Airbus for the acquisition of 16 new A319s with options for up to 40 additional A320 Family aircraft.

Volaris started operating on March 13th, 2006, and currently operates four A319s.

Volaris' new A319s will carry 144 passengers in a comfortable single class configuration and will be equipped with IAE engines. The aircraft will also be put into service on Volaris' network, increasing frequencies from its Toluca hub (Mexico City's secondary airport) and opening new destinations within Mexico.

Volaris is an equal partnership between Inbursa (a Mexican financial institution), Protego-Discovery (an investment fund), TACA (a leading Latin-American airline) and Grupo Televisa (a Latin-American media conglomerate).

With the most modern design of any single-aisle aircraft, the Airbus A320 Family is best placed to deliver the lowest running costs, making it the most economic aircraft in its class. And with the largest cabin in its class, passengers get more space, comfort and overhead stowage space for their money, making the Airbus A320 Family the preferred aircraft on short-to-medium haul routes.

Firm orders for the Airbus A320 Family now stand at more than 4,300 aircraft, making them the world's fastest and best-selling airliners of all times. The Airbus A320 Family has been ordered by, or is in service with, more than 200 customers and operators worldwide.

To date, 235 A320 Family aircraft have been ordered by ten customers in Latin America.
