Airbus has delivered Singapore Airlines' fifth A380, which will allow the operator to replace more of its B747-400 flights on the Singapore-London route and create the first commercial A380 services to Beijing, China as passenger traffic increases leading up to the Olympic Games.
Singapore Airlines took delivery of its fifth A380 (MSN 010) on Saturday, June 28 in Toulouse, France.
With this addition to its aircraft fleet, Singapore Airlines will replace more of its B747-400 flights on the busy Singapore-London route with the A380. In addition to the existing nightly departure from Singapore, this latest aircraft will enable the airline to add additional lunchtime departures from Singapore four times a week.
Since the A380 began operating on the Singapore-London route, the airline has reported exceptional demand for sectors operated with the aircraft, recording average load factors in excess of 90 per cent.
The arrival of this fifth aircraft also will allow Singapore Airlines to begin the first commercial A380 services to Beijing, China in August. This temporary service from Singapore will operate daily from 2 August to 8 August in response to increased demand leading up to the Olympic Games.
These special services to Beijing will come just as the second A380 operator, Emirates, begins its own scheduled operations between Dubai and New York, with the Airbus 21st century jetliner.
