Just over a month after the maiden flight of the second Airbus A380, the aircraft touched down in Dubai for its first appearance at an air show outside of Europe.

The aircraft, MSN004, is on static display throughout Dubai 2005 and will wow crowds as part of the daily flying display. It also features full Emirates livery.

The second test A380 completed its first flight on 18 October and since then has been taking part in the flight test campaign. As of 9 November the aircraft had successfully completed 12 flights and 65 flight hours.

The aircraft is equipped with heavy test instrumentation and like the first A380, it will participate in environmental trials to prove full functionality of its four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, along with systems and materials, under extreme weather conditions and altitude.

In the first half of next year the aircraft will take part in the hot and high campaigns and cold weather trials. In the latter trials the aircraft will be exposed to up to minus 40 degrees C?, while assuring full functionality. It will also undergo electromagnetic interference (EMI) tests in the first half of next year, which will ascertain the aircraft’s resistance to electromagnetic fields.

The crew that brought the aircraft to Dubai comprised pilots Claude Lelaie and Harry Nelson, along with test flight engineer Gérard Desbois, flight test engineer Jacky Joye and Matthieu Rouzeval, Flight test Engineer.

In total five A380s will participate in the certification programme, which represents more than 2,500 flight hours.

The Emirates livery decorating the aircraft is not permanent. It consists of removable decals that were applied in Toulouse prior to the aircraft’s departure for Dubai.
