New eco-efficient landing procedures demonstrated with the A330
10 October 2008
News in brief
New landing procedures that reduce the amount of fuel burned - as well as lowering emissions and noise levels - have been validated in "green" flight trials performed with Scandinavian Airlines A330s. These evaluations were carried out in a cooperative effort with Airbus, Scandinavian Airlines and the Swedish LFV airport authority, and involved a continuous descent approach (CDA) to airports. Scandinavian Airlines estimates the CDA procedures can result in an estimated annual fuel reduction of 95 tonnes per aircraft, equalling a 290-tonne reduction in C02 emissions and a reduction in airport noise levels by 3-5 decibels.
