Making the connection: The A380 reinforces Asiana Airlines’ position on long-haul and regional routes

Asiana Airlines – which today received its initial Airbus A380 – is ready to become the latest worldwide operator to “own the sky” with this highly efficient aircraft.

As the first of six 21st century Airbus flagship jetliners Asiana Airlines has ordered, the A380 will provide key capacity, premium service and superior operating economics on key routes, following its long-haul commercial service introduction this summer.

“In addition to this ability to carry more passengers on high-value, long-haul flights, the A380 also allows Asiana Airlines to expand its regional network,” said Joost van der Heijden, Airbus’ Head of Marketing for Asia. “The aircraft’s unrivalled passenger appeal increases overall market capture for airlines by drawing traffic on key trunk routes, which opens opportunities to attract more connecting travellers.” 

With the favorable geographic location of Asiana Airlines’ South Korean base, van der Heijden cited the A380’s capability to serve key trans-Pacific networks – linking passengers in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and other Asian areas to major destinations in North America. 

Initially, Asiana Airlines first A380 is scheduled to operate on routes to Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong and Bangkok from 13 June, before it commences long-haul service to North America this August.
