An Airbus and EADS flashmob at Farnborough asks job seekers to “join us, now”

The Farnborough Airshow literally moved to the beat of Airbus and its EADS parent company today as an afternoon flashmob promoting their large-scale recruitment initiatives became the centre of attention.

 More than 400 Airbus and EADS employees wearing brightly-colored shirts marked with the phrase: “Think mobility…join us now” emerged from the crowd to create a band with drums, tambourines, shakers and bells.  As they gathered in front of Airbus’ A380 demonstrator aircraft on the static display line, air show attendees in the vicinity were asked to accompany the group – being supplied with matching caps and maracas to join in the samba beat.

The flashmob achieved its goal of drawing attention to Airbus’ hiring drive, which is to bring some 4,000 new recruits into the company in 2012 – responding to the needs created by continued aircraft production ramp-up, new programme developments, and expansion of the company’s worldwide presence.

“Joining Airbus and EADS is really something that makes life different, because in our company, we do exceptional things every day,” Thierry Baril, the Chief Human Resources Officer for EADS and Airbus, told the gathered crowd.  

Flashmob public gatherings are increasingly common in today’s social media-oriented world, and Airbus first used the concept at last year’s Paris Air Show to spotlight its recruitment programme.  Today’s flashmob was led by Paul Lazare and the “Quinta Feira” band from Hamburg, Germany – the home to one of Airbus’ A320 Family production lines.

In addition to this week’s flashmob at Farnborough, Airbus is hosting employment forums and workshops during the U.K. air show– with human resources professionals, business experts and company engineers available to speak about the numerous job opportunities at the company.
