Airbus’ A380 product marketing director, Richard Carcaillet, presented a comprehensive overview of the A380 programme during the opening session of the ‘Welcoming the A380 Conference’, which was held from February 22 – 23 at the Singapore Aviation College.
Richard’s detailed progress report covered current A380 orders, expected delivery dates and the latest flight test information He also highlighted the competitive advantages of both the passenger and freighter versions of the A380 for airlines, airports and aircraft operators.
Since the early inception of the A380, Airbus has collaborated with airlines, airports and equipment manufacturers and the resulting aircraft reflects current and future market demands.
“This market-driven aircraft is off to a very good start,” Richard said. “Half of the 16 major 747 operators - companies with more than ten 747s - have already selected the A380.”
He added: “Airport compatibility has also already been proven.” Some 25 airports worldwide will be prepared for the A380’s entry into service with Singapore Airlines later this year, with this number growing to 60 by 2010.
The conference was one of the highlights of this year’s Asian Aerospace. Thomas Burger, product marketing manager, A380, spoke on the second day of the conference, giving an overview of the collaborative approach Airbus took when developing, designing and manufacturing systems and equipment to handle the A380.
