The first of six A320 aircraft to join the AirPhil Express fleet this year is now in operation, bringing a combination of high comfort and reduced operating costs to this low-fare affiliate of Philippine Airlines.
AirPhil Express, the low-fare affiliate of Philippine Airlines, has become a new operator of the A320, Airbus' benchmark single-aisle aircraft.
Featuring the airline's bright new blue and orange livery, AirPhil's first A320 recently began operations on the carrier's domestic route network. This aircraft features seating for 177 passengers in a single-class layout.
A total of six A320s will join the AirPhil Express fleet this year. The first two are being operated by the airline on lease from Philippine Airlines, while the other four will be new aircraft delivered from Airbus during the second half of the year.
"We want to position AirPhil Express as a low-cost carrier offering quality service," said David Lim, President of the airline. "The modernisation of our fleet will enable us to increase market share while the industry braces for the eventual rebound."
Airbus has a longstanding partnership with Philippine Airlines, which began operating the A300B4 in 1979.
The highly efficient Airbus A320 Family is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft product line. More than 6,500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold and nearly 4,200 delivered to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world's best selling commercial jetliner ever.
