Initial deliveries of Airbus aircraft to customers have begun from a large new centre in Toulouse, France in preparation for its full operational startup in early 2007. The new delivery facility at Toulouse Blagnac International Airport is significantly larger than Airbus' existing centre, and it can accommodate up to 16 aircraft at a time.
The comprehensive new Airbus Delivery Centre located on the Henri Ziegler site in Toulouse is accepting its initial deliveries ahead of full operational transfer to the facility early next year.
The first five deliveries will introduce both customers and Airbus teams to the state-of-the-art new Airbus Delivery Centre in Toulouse before it starts full operations in early 2007.
Final checks, including a complete trial delivery, of the comprehensive facilities were successfully completed before jetBlue received their latest A320 in early September. A further four deliveries of two more A320s for jetBlue and two A330s for Qatar Airways are scheduled for October and November.
These first deliveries are giving both customers and technical teams their first taste of all that the 17000mÂ² centre has to offer. Key features are the hugely increased space and the improved access to aircraft offered by the circular layout, a cluster of three satellite buildings set around a central hub.
The centre can accommodate up to 16 aircraft at any one time, depending on the model, and is expected to take around 280 deliveries next year, with an average of one ferry flight per day.
It brings all technical and contractual services together on one site for the first time, enabling better and more efficient communication between customers and the Airbus delivery teams.
Improved customer facilities include sophisticated IT resources, meeting rooms, a social area and an impressive 1,500mÂ² gallery dedicated to acceptance ceremonies. Full airport resources such as check-in, a double-deck jetway capable of handling both decks of the A380, security and baggage handling will be available for ferry flights, so that transfers to Toulouse Blagnac airport are no longer necessary. The building also offers sweeping views of the aircraft prior to their departure.
Maintenance and ground support service teams have moved to the site from the current centre at Saint Martin for the initial deliveries, taking service and support vehicles with them.
