Airbus Wi-Fi connectivity solution is certified for A320 Family aircraft

Airbus has achieved certification for its combined mobile telephony and Wi-Fi system for the single-aisle A320 Family. These connectivity services are built on Airbus’ latest version of its “Airline Network Architecture” platform – known as “ALNAv2.” The services were first offered in 2009 on Airbus’ widebody long-range A330/A340 aircraft Families. With this latest offering for the A320 Family, ALNAv2 is now available across all Airbus aircraft families today – including the A380 and A350 XWB.

ALNAv2 leverages Inmarsat SwiftBroadBand (SBB) worldwide services and has no impact on fuel consumption for airlines since it requires only one low-drag Satcom antenna. Airbus’ ALNAv2 network architecture facilitates communications for both operational uses and for passengers. It also is designed to utilise other air-to-ground links, including those using high-bandwidth Ka-Band frequencies when they become available.

ALNAv2 connectivity solutions provide, but are not limited to: mobile telephony services (SMS, email and attachments, mobile internet, access to applications, and voice etc.), Wi-Fi services (live internet, access to applications, corporate VPN access, etc.), telemedicine and credit card authentication. Equipment is supplied by KID-Systeme, and services are offered by OnAir.

To date, Airbus’ ALNAv2 connectivity option has been selected by more than 30 operators and is available in production and in retrofit. Operators can propose a fleet-wide connectivity service to their passengers.
