Airbus showcases cabin innovations for its next-generation A350 XWB

Throughout this week’s event, the A350 XWB’s high cabin flexibility was demonstrated with a series of three 1:20 scale models located prominently on the Airbus stand – representing each member of the aircraft product line: the A350-800, A350-900 and A350-100.

With transparent outer walls providing clear views of the interior sections, these models underscored the large number of cabin configurations possible with Airbus’ A350 XWB product line – showing how a wide variety of operator needs and cabin furnishings can be accommodated.

The A350-800 model incorporated a regional business class configuration, with 28 comfortable, lie-flat seats (seven per row); while the A350-900 was displayed with a premium class layout – featuring 30 seats in the same zone between the forward two doors.  The longest-fuselage member of the family – the A350-1000 – was represented at Aircraft Interiors Expo with a premium economy class configuration that provides more legroom for passengers as well as wide 19.5-inch seats.

These models highlighted another innovative feature for the A350 XWB Family: crew rest compartments do not take any space in the cabin’s revenue area, representing a key operational benefit for airline customers.

Also on display at Aircraft Interiors Expo was the A350 XWB “flat floor,” which was designed by Airbus by taking into account seat-to-seat cable routing for enhanced in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems.  In the new arrangement, seat rails and cables are lowered to become invisible and their covers are flush with the carpet – resulting for the first time in a fully flat cabin floor.

In other activity at Aircraft Interiors Expo, the company inked an agreement that recognizes Jamco America, Inc. as a premium seat supplier for the A350 XWB. With this signing, Jamco America will be offering its new “Journey” seat – which features a true full-flat bed and single actuator functionality for optimized seat ergonomics – for the widebody jetliner.
